Under the hood, the two Mercedes-Benz sports cars both play host to roaring V-8 engines, however, the new AMG-GT utilizes a smaller displacement unit. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S gets its power from a 4.0-liter Biturbo V-8 engine capable of 456 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. In comparison, the outgoing SLS AMG housed a 6.2-liter V-8 yielding 563 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Although it was more powerful, the SLS AMG was more than 100 pounds heavier than the new AMG-GT, meaning that 0-60 times and top speeds are not all that far apart. With the all-new 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT set to arrive at Loeber Motors and dealerships across the country in April 2015. The Mercedes-Benz SLS-AMG has been embodiment of what an ultra-performance-focused since its wheel first touched the road in the 2013 model year. The available gull-wing doors, the roar of the massively powerful V-8 engine, and exotic design of the SLS AMG made it one of the most sought-after cars on the road for the past few years. Despite its excellence, Mercedes-Benz is taking a new route in the high-performance sports car category and saying good-bye to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT. Although it will be missed, its replacement will not leave us mourning for long.

As we say goodbye to the SLS AMG, we’ll also say hello to the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT. While the two cars clearly share certain characteristics, they also differ in a multitude of key areas. To help understand the key differences between the all-new 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT vs Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, which will not be available in 2016, we put the two models in a side-by-side comparison.

Upon first glance, there are some clear differences in the styling of the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT and the outgoing SLS AMG. On the sides, the new Mercedes-AMG GT features rear quarter windows where the SLS model sported a single window. Perhaps the most striking differences are in the rear of the two vehicles, where the 2016 AMG GT adopts a hatch-style trunk-lid with an integrated window where the outgoing SLS features a more coupe-like rear with a stationary rear window. Of course, the most significant difference between the two is the doors. The iconic gullwing doors the SLS AMG will be unavailable in the new Mercedes-AMG GT, at least in its first generation.
