SUSPENSE - UNI-VERSION
INSPIRATION

Singapore is well known for a lot of reasons among them, Being super clean, Greenery amidst the city, That ban on chewing gum, The Marina Bay Skyline, Inventing the Singapore Sling, The land of shopping malls. Singapore has
some of the most futuristic architecture around the world and plans underway to build futuristic
cities and a general focus on the future. Looking at these images, other than having a futuristic vibe,
the common trait is that each image has something suspended in the air from entire buildings to bridges. This
futuristic suspended vibe informed my creative design direction.

SUMMARY

First principles thinking is one of the best ways to reverse engineer complicated problems and unleash creative
possibility. Sometimes called “reasoning from first principles,” the idea is to break down complicated problems into basic
elements and then reassemble them from the ground up. As a Creative Designer, my first approach to any project is to solve a problem or set of problems. The second approach is to break down each component and build it from the ground up to address the stated problems and only retain what is important. The third is to push the limit of what's possible and come up with some of the most impactful design solutions.

With this design, available materials, comfort, ergonomics and aesthetics were the primary drivers. I started by looking at the reference images and researching on more designs just to familiarize with the processes involved in creating them. With this in mind, the next step was to challenge the norm by asking myself, 'Does the design have to look a certain way?' given most of them are very similar. To answer that question, I decided to go for a completely different approach, where instead of doing a regular box sort of design, I focused more on comfort, ergonomics and style using the human anatomy to drive the lines, shapes and material allocation, to come up with a design which in my opinion, 'You can't miss in a room full of furniture.’

If you were a bee patrolling around the seat like a drone, this is the view you would get to see. The seat is wide enough to comfortably accommodate a fully grown adult, has enough built in support for the entire body from the leg rest to the head rest as well as an arm rest, which can be padded for extra comfort.
